Manchester,-Claudio Echeverri dilaporkan telah sepakat untuk bergabung dengan klub raksasa Inggris, Manchester City. Bintang Timnas Argentina U-17 itu menjadi perhatian publik setelah tampil gemilang pada Piala DUnia U-17 2023 di Indonesia.
Berdasarkan laporan pakar transfer Fabrizio Romano, City sepakat menebus Echeverri dengan nilai transfer 20 poundsterling (Rp394 miliar). The Citizen mengalahkan dua raksasa Spanyol, Real Madrid dan Barcelona untuk mendapatkan pemain berusia 18 tahun itu.
“Claudio Echeverri ke Manchester City, here we go! City dan River Plate masih mengurus sejumlah dokumen untuk menyepakati transfer tersebut,” kata Romano di Twitter pribadinya pada Kamis (4/1/2024).
Namun, Romano mengatakan bahwa sang pemain akan tetap bermain di Argentina hingga Desember 2024 sebelum pindah ke Eropa. Dia akan memainkan keseluruhan Copa Libertadores 2024 di River Plate, baru setelah itu menuju Inggris.
Hal ini tidak lepas dari kesepakatan kedua klub. Pemain kelahiran 2006 ini akan tetap bermain untuk River Plate dengan status pinjaman pada 2024.
City dilaporkan mengikat Echeverri dengan kontrak berdurasi enam tahun. Kepindahan kapten Timnas Argentina U-17 ini diperkirakan tidak lepas dari keberadaan seniornya, yakni Julian Alvarez.
Nama Echeverri meroket usai menciptakan hattrick saat Argentina mengalahkan Brasil 3-0. Pertandingan perempat final Piala Dunia U-17 2023 itu berlangsung di Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Sabtu (25/11/2023).
Tidak hanya itu, dia juga berhasil mengemas lima gol dalam keseluruhan pertandingan yang dia mainkan di Piala Dunia U-17. Penampilan istimewa kedua pemain hanya mampu membawa Argentina menduduki peringkat keempat dalam gelaran turnamen ini.
Pada perebutan tempat ketiga, mereka takluk 0-3 dari Mali. Echeverri dinobatkan sebagai pemain terbaik ketiga pada Piala Dunia U-17 2023.
