Medan, -Wali Kota Medan Bobby Nasution menerima penghargaan USU Awarding dan dinobatkan sebagai Tokoh yang Peduli Pendidikan di Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Penghargaan itu diberikan karena menantu Presiden Joko Widodo itu dinilai selama ini sangat peduli dan berkontribusi untuk mendukung kemajuan pendidikan di USU.
Salah satu bentuk dukungan yang diberikan orang nomor satu di Pemko Medan itu dengan memberikan bantuan untuk pembangunan gedung UMKM Square di kawasan USU Jalan Dr Mansyur Medan.
Penghargaan diberikan langsung Rektor USU Muryanto Amin kepada Bobby Nasution disaksikan para Wakil Rektor, Guru Besar, stakeholder, para civitas akademisi serta ratusan mahasiswa di acara USU Awarding Night yang digelar dalam rangka Dies Natalis ke-71 USU di Auditorium USU, Jumat (15/12) malam.
Bobby Nasution menyampaikan, apresiasi dan ucapan terima kasihnya atas pemberian penghargaan USU Awarding dan penobatan dirinya sebagai Tokoh yang Peduli Pendidikan di USU tersebut.
“Saya apresiasi kegiatan USU Awarding Night dan berterima kasih kepada Rektor USU dan jajarannya atas penobatan dan pemberian penghargaan ini,” kata Bobby Nasution yang hadir didampingi Kadis Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Kota Medan Benny Sinomba Siregar.
Dikatakan Bobby Nasution, penghargaan yang diterima ini tidak hanya untuk dirinya, tetapi juga seluruh masyarakat Kota Medan. Sebab, imbuhnya, pembangunan UMKM Square atau yang lebih dikenal Plaza UMKM ini merupakan kerjasama Pemko Medan dan USU yang bertujuan untuk mendukung perkembangan UMKM di Kota Medan dan sebagai tempat mengedukasi para pelaku UMKM.
Sebelumnya, Rektor USU Muryanto Amin mengatakan, USU Awarding Night ini merupakan kegiatan yang baru pertama kali digelar oleh USU. USU Awarding Night ini, jelasnya, dinilai penting karena diketahui bersama bahwa perubahan dunia yang saat ini kita rasakan dalam kehidupan akan membawa dampak yang cukup luar biasa.
Menurut Muryanto, salah satu yang bisa cepat merespon perubahan yang terjadi di dunia ini adalah dunia pendidikan. Oleh karenanya, bilangnya, dunia pendidikan dituntut secara lebih cepat melakukan adaptasi dalam setiap proses Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi.
“Melalui USU Awarding Night ini kita berikan penghargaan kepada tokoh-tokoh yang peduli terhadap pendidikan dengan memberikan bantuannya untuk pengembangan di USU,” jelas Muryanto.
Selain Bobby Nasution, sejumlah tokoh masyarakat lainnya yang telah berkontribusi terhadap USU juga mendapatkan USU Awarding. Termasuk, civitas akademika USU baik itu dosen maupun mahasiswa yang berhasil mengharumkan nama USU melalui prestasi.
