Manchester,-Manchester United (MU) menutup 2023 dengan kekalahan. Melawat ke markas Nottingham Forest, Setan Merah takluk dengan skor 1-2 di City Ground, Minggu (31/12/2023) dinihari WIB.
Forest unggul lebih dulu lewat Nicolas Dominguez sebelum disamakan Marcus Rashford. Gol kemenangan dibuat Morgan Gibbs-White.
Kekalahan ini membuat MU tertahan di posisi ketujuh dengan 31 poin. Sementara Forest naik ke posisi ke-15 Klasemen Liga Inggris dengan 20 poin.
Tahun 2023 segera berakhir, Manchester United menjalani salah satu tahun terburuk dalam sejarah klub. Setelah kekalahan dari Forest, jumlah kekalahan United mencapai 21 dalam setahun.
Jumlah kekalahan ini menjadi tahun terburuk keempat dalam sejarah Setan Merah. Menurut Opta, hanya pada tahun 1930 (28), 1972 (25) dan 1921 (24) mereka mengalami lebih banyak kekalahan dalam satu tahun kalender.
Penderitaan semakin bertambah ketika alasan untuk optimistis diredam oleh penampilan buruk di liga. Setan Merah telah menelan jumlah kekalahan (9) yang sama dengan musim lalu – awal terburuk mereka sejak 1989-90.
Pelatih Manchester United, Erik Ten Hag, jengkel dengan permainan timnya saat melawan Nottingham Forest. Dia geram dengan permainan membosankan yang ditunjukkan Man United.
“Kami seharusnya bermain lebih baik pada momen seperti itu. Kami menciptakan lebih sedikit peluang, kami seharusnya memeragakab permainan yang lebih cepat dan pergerakan yang lebih cepat,” kata Ten Hag, dikutip dari laman resmi Man United, Minggu (31/12/2023).
“Di sepertiga akhir lapangan, itu tidak cukup bagus. Kami tidak cukup untuk menciptakan peluang,” ujarnya, menambahkan.
Perjuangan United tidak akan berkurang dalam semalam. Namun, mereka berharap dapat meresponnya dengan kemenangan di Piala FA saat menghadapi Wigan pekan depan.
