Jakarta,-Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB) mengaktifkan operasi Teknologi Modifikasi Cuaca (TMC). Hal ini dilakukan sebagai upaya mitigasi dan antisipasi dalam menghadapi potensi bencana hidrometeorologi basah di awal tahun 2024.
Langkah ini dilakukan BNPB bersama lintas Kementerian/Lembaga (K/L) mulai BMKG, BRIN, Kementerian Perhubungan, TNI, Polri dan sektor lainnya. Berdasarkan hasil keputusan rapat koordinasi yang telah dilaksanakan pada 21 Desember 2023.
Direktur Dukungan Sumber Daya Darurat (DSDD), Kedeputian Bidang Penanganan Darurat BNPB Agus Riyanto mengatakan, bahwa upaya TMC ini dapat dimaknai sebagai bentuk ikhtiar bangsa. Khususnya dalam meminimalisir dampak risiko bencana hidrometeorologi, dengan menggunakan teknologi yang ada.
“Operasi TMC ini merupakan bentuk ikhtiar bersama demi meminimalisir dampak risiko bencana. Yang dapat dipicu oleh cuaca,” kata Agus dalam siaran pers tertulis, Minggu (7/1/2024).
Menurutnya, operasi TMC ini, bukan berarti pihaknua yang menurunkan hujan. Namun, upaya mengurangi intensitas hujan diprediksi akan turun di satu tempat dengan menurunkannya di tempat lain.
Operasi TMC, kata Agus, merupakan salah satu alternatif yang sudah beberapa kali dilakukan BNPB, BMKG, BRIN, TNI AU dan lintas stakeholder lainnya. Perihal ini, untuk mitigasi bencana hidrometeorologi kering maupun basah.
Pada kasus kekeringan, TMC dilakukan untuk menurunkan hujan ke wilayah terdampak maupun titik-titik kebakaran hutan dan lahan. Sedangkan untuk kondisi seperti saat ini, TMC dilakukan untuk redistribusi curah hujan.
Sehingga hujan diharapkan dapat turun di wilayah lain dan tidak terfokus di satu daerah. “Jika kemarin kita kekeringan dan karhuta, TMC dilakukan dengan harapan dapat turun hujan di wilayah terdampak karhutla,” ujarnya.
Sedangkan kalau saat ini, TMC diharapkan dapat menurunkan hujan pada posisi sebelum target. Misalnya, jika targetnya di Jakarta dan arah angin dari barat daya ke tenggara, maka disemai NaCl di wilayah Laut Jawa.
“Ini agar hujan tidak turun di Jakarta. Sesuai rekomendasi BMKG dan BRIN,” ucapnya.
